BMW iX4 on the Neue Klasse platform leaks in images ahead of its debut: a coupe-SUV based on the iX3, with a 108.7 kWh battery

The new iX4 is reportedly due to be revealed on Thursday and goes on sale by the end of 2026. It will come as the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive and is expected to be built in Debrecen, alongside the iX3.

The new BMW iX4 has leaked online a few days before its premiere. The images, posted on Instagram by the @Kero_Wolf account, show both the exterior and the interior. According to Electrek, BMW is set to reveal the car officially on Thursday, October 8, although the automaker has not confirmed a date yet.

What is certain: BMW announced last week, at its investor event, that the iX4 goes on sale by the end of 2026.

An iX3 with a lower roof

The iX4 is the third model on the Neue Klasse platform, after the iX3 and the new i3, and it replaces the current X4. It is essentially the coupe-SUV version of the iX3: the roofline drops sharply at the back, and the silhouette looks more like a grand tourer than a traditional SUV. The leaked images match the camouflaged prototypes spotted testing in recent months. As with any coupe-SUV, you get less rear headroom and a smaller boot than in the iX3.

What we know about the tech

  • two versions, both all-wheel drive: the iX4 40 xDrive and the iX4 50 xDrive;
  • sixth-generation eDrive and a 108.7 kWh battery, as in the iX3 and i3;
  • inside: a 17.9-inch central screen, a new steering wheel and BMW Panoramic Vision, the 3D head-up display that stretches across the full width of the dashboard.

Prices have not been announced, but the iX4 should cost slightly more than an equivalent iX3. In Germany, the iX3 40 starts at €63,400.

Built next door to Romania

According to BMWBLOG, the iX4 is expected to be built in Debrecen, Hungary, on the same line as the iX3. The plant already runs three shifts, around the clock, because of strong demand for the iX3, which has passed 100,000 orders. We chose not to publish the leaked images; the photo above shows an iX3 on the Debrecen production line.
