Lucid delivered 3,806 cars in Q3 2026, down 7% from a year ago, and cut production 38% to clear its inventory

The US automaker built just 2,954 cars in the third quarter, its lowest output since early 2025. It's the first quarter of 2026 in which Lucid delivered more than it built, part of new CEO Silvio Napoli's turnaround plan.

Lucid delivered 3,806 cars in the third quarter of 2026, about 7% fewer than the 4,078 it delivered a year earlier and 4% below the second quarter. The big drop was in production: the Arizona factory built only 2,954 cars, 38% fewer than the 4,774 it built in Q2.

Lucid says the cut is deliberate. The company is selling down the stock of unsold cars it built up in the first half of the year. Q3 is the first quarter of 2026 in which deliveries beat production (by 852 cars).

Q1 2026 5,500 3,093
Q2 2026 4,774 3,953

In the first nine months of the year, Lucid built 13,228 cars and delivered 10,852.

Why production was cut

Silvio Napoli, CEO since June, launched an "operating reset" that targets $1.4 billion in cash flow improvements in 2026. According to Electrek, $600 million to $800 million of that is expected to come from selling inventory.

In June, Lucid dropped the second shift at its Casa Grande plant, laid off 18% of its staff and withdrew its target of building 25,000 to 27,000 cars this year. In the first half, it built 3,228 more cars than it delivered. Part of the problem came in Q1, when Gravity SUV deliveries were held up for 29 days by a supplier issue with the second-row seats.

The company says demand for the Gravity "continued to regain momentum," but it doesn't break out deliveries by model.

How it compares with Rivian

For comparison, Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in the same quarter, five times Lucid's total, helped by the R2 production ramp. Lucid reports its Q3 financial results on November 9.
