The sub-€20,000 EV that won over 65 jurors across Europe
The Renault Twingo E-Tech electric is one of seven Car of the Year 2027 finalists. The winner will be announced on 8 January 2027 in Brussels.

Of 43 new cars tested by 65 journalists from 25 countries, seven are left. One of them costs under €20,000: the Renault Twingo E-Tech electric has made the final of Car of the Year 2027, Renault announced on 30 October 2026.
What Renault announced
The winner will be revealed on 8 January 2027 at the Brussels Motor Show. It is Renault's sixth consecutive final. The brand says the Twingo has already reached nearly 26,000 sales and was number one in its segment in the third quarter, with around a 25% share.
What the electric Twingo offers
It has a 60 kW motor, a 27.5 kWh LFP battery and up to 263 km WLTP of range. Prices start under €20,000 and it is built in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. It is one of the few new European EVs designed purely for the city and a tight budget.
Why the final matters
Car of the Year is one of Europe's oldest car awards. A win, or even a podium place, helps marketing, especially for a car competing with cheap Chinese models. Renault won recently with the Renault 5 E-Tech electric (2025).
What it means for drivers
A cheap EV reaching the final shows the jury is no longer just rewarding big, expensive cars. For anyone looking for a first electric city car, the Twingo is worth watching: range is modest but enough for daily commuting, and the LFP battery copes well with frequent charging to 100%.
