Can you sleep in a BMW iX3? We tested an inflatable mattress in the iX3 40
We folded the rear seats, inflated the mattress from the 12 V socket and checked how much room the BMW iX3 40 has for a night in the car.

Electric cars are great for car camping: the heating can run all night without an engine. In the video on the "Mașina Timpului" channel, Andrei takes the new BMW iX3 40 to a field, folds the rear seats and inflates a universal car mattress to see if you can sleep comfortably inside.
Disclosure: the video is supported by iHunt Romania; the car was provided for filming by a BMW dealer.
Setup: rear seats and the 12 V socket
The rear bench folds easily: unhook the belt, pull the handle and the backrest drops and locks. The mattress pump runs from the 12 V socket in the armrest. The mattress and pillow inflate in a few minutes, and sliding the front seats forward frees up more room.

How much space there is
The mattress, bought from a Tesla accessory shop, is universal and fit without issues. Only the main section, about 60% of it, was inflated, and there was still comfortable room to stretch out. Packing up is just as quick: the pump switches to suction and empties it.

About the iX3 40
The iX3 40 in the video, presented by Andrei as an all-wheel-drive (4x4) version, has, according to BMW data, 320 hp, 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, an 82.6 kWh usable battery and up to 637 km WLTP range. It DC-charges at up to 300 kW, 10 to 80% in 21 minutes. Andrei says he prefers it to the iX3 50, mainly for its efficiency.

What it means for drivers
- An EV can keep the heating on all night in camping mode, with no exhaust fumes.
- A universal mattress with a 12 V pump turns an SUV like the iX3 into a makeshift bed for road trips.
- Check the 12 V socket and the flat-floor space before buying, as they vary by model.
