Mitsubishi ASX VR-e: a 459 hp all-wheel-drive EV that does 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and out-muscles every Lancer Evo
Mitsubishi is launching the ASX VR-e, a compact EV built in Taiwan and based on the Foxtron Bria. The top GSR version has two motors, 342 kW (459 hp), 700 Nm and does 0–100 km/h in 3.9 s. For now it's only going to Australia and New Zealand.

Mitsubishi has a fast car again, only this time it's electric. It's called the ASX VR-e, and the top GSR version has two motors, all-wheel drive, 342 kW (459 hp) and 700 Nm. Mitsubishi Australia quotes 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, according to "GoAuto" and "WhichCar". "Electrek" goes as far as calling it the "new-age electric EVO".
More power than the hottest Lancer Evo
"Carscoops" makes the comparison: the most powerful Lancer Evo ever built, the UK-only Evo X FQ-440 MR, had 440 hp and 559 Nm. The ASX VR-e GSR has 19 hp and 141 Nm more. The name is a tribute too: "VR" points back to the legendary Galant VR-4.
Mitsubishi doesn't build it
This is the interesting part. The ASX VR-e is really the Foxtron Bria, a Taiwanese car from Foxtron, the car arm of Foxconn (the company that assembles iPhones). Mitsubishi takes it as an OEM model with a different nose, badges and some interior trim, and the design is by Pininfarina. The photo above is the Foxtron Bria itself, its twin. According to "GoAuto", it's built in Taiwan by Yulon Motor.
It isn't the first time: the petrol ASX you can buy in Romania today is really a Renault Captur wearing a Mitsubishi badge.
The numbers
| ASX VR-e LS / Aspire / Exceed | ASX VR-e GSR | |
|---|---|---|
| Drive | rear, one motor | all-wheel, two motors |
| Power | 171 kW (229 hp) | 342 kW (459 hp) |
| Torque | 350 Nm | 700 Nm |
| 0–100 km/h | 6.8 s | 3.9 s |
| Battery | 57.7 kWh LFP | 57.7 kWh LFP |
| DC / AC charging | 134 kW / 6.6 kW | 134 kW / 6.6 kW |
Figures from Mitsubishi Australia, via "GoAuto" and "WhichCar". In Sport mode the GSR can shift torque between 50:50 and 30:70 front to rear. The car is about 4.3 m long, according to "MotoringNZ".
That's a small battery for so much power. Official range for Australia hasn't been announced yet. Foxtron quotes 516 km for the single-motor Bria, but on the Chinese NEDC cycle, which is far more generous than Europe's WLTP ("Auto Express"). Realistically, highway range would be well below that.
Where it's sold and what it costs
Only in Australia and New Zealand, from late 2026, says "Mitsubishi Motors". "Electrek" writes that it's already on sale in Taiwan, but what's sold there is the Foxtron Bria, not the Mitsubishi version. In New Zealand prices start at NZ$57,990 for the LS and go up to NZ$72,990 for the GSR, according to "MotoringNZ".
For Europe and Romania, Mitsubishi hasn't announced anything, notes "Auto Express".
