Tesla drops the FSD name in Europe: it's now "Tesla Assisted Driving", Romania's app included

Tesla's Romanian page is now titled "Tesla Assisted Driving", and the app shows "Tesla Assisted Driving Basic" at 490 RON a month. Markets without approval show a "Basic" version, the Netherlands gets the full name at €99 a month, and the US keeps FSD.

Tesla has dropped the FSD (Supervised) name from its European websites. The official page is now called Tesla Assisted Driving, and the old /fsd link redirects to /tesla-assisted-driving. We checked this evening: the change is live in Romania, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In the US, the page is still "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)".

The new name is exactly what Tesla offered to use in its talks with Berlin, when Germany said it would back the system in the EU vote. Germany's transport ministry said on 6 October that "FSD" was "somewhat misleading".

Two names, not one

According to screenshots posted by BBZ, FSD_DE, EFIEBER and others, Tesla changed the app too, starting with version 4.61.6 on iOS. That's where a distinction the website makes less obvious shows up:

Where What it shows
Countries where FSD is approved (the Netherlands among them) Tesla Assisted Driving, no "Basic". Subscription €99/month
Countries without approval (for example Romania, Germany, Ireland, the UK) Tesla Assisted Driving Basic
United States Full Self-Driving (Supervised), unchanged

FSD_DE clarified that "Basic" does not mean a weaker system. It's the label for countries that don't have approval yet. In those markets' configurator, "Tesla Assisted Driving Basic" lists the driver-assist features already sold there: Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Lane Change, Navigate on Autosteer, Summon and Actually Smart Summon, Autopark, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control. The text next to it says plainly that Tesla Assisted Driving "is not yet available but may be in the future", depending on development and regulatory approval. The listed subscription is still €99 a month, or £99 in the UK.

What it means for Romania

On tesla.com/ro_ro the page is titled "Tesla Assisted Driving", and the change has reached the Tesla app in Romania too. There it shows "Tesla Assisted Driving Basic" at 490 RON a month, with a note that the full feature "is not yet available but may be in the future", depending on regulatory approval.

The Basic package includes the same features as before: Autosteer, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Lane Change, Navigate on Autosteer, Summon, Actually Smart Summon, Autopark and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control. Nothing changes in the car for Romanian drivers: the full system stays unavailable until an approval lands.

The change is a name, not features. Tesla hasn't officially announced the rename and hasn't given a date for the EU vote, expected in December. Reuters described yesterday the pressure the company is putting on European authorities to get the file through.
