Mercedes-AMG unveiled the new, fully electric AMG GT SUV on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. It is the first large SUV developed entirely in Affalterbach and the second model on the new AMG.EA electric platform, after the GT 4-Door Coupé. According to "Autocar", it is the fastest-accelerating AMG SUV yet.

Three versions, up to 860 kW

  • GT 63: three axial-flux motors, 860 kW (1,169 PS, or 1,153 hp) and 2,000 Nm; 0–100 km/h in 2.7 s, 0–200 km/h in 7.2 s, up to 270 km/h with the AMG Driver's Package;
  • GT 55: 600 kW (816 PS);
  • GT 53: two synchronous motors, 536 hp according to "InsideEVs" and "Autocar".

The most impressive part is sustained output: up to 530 kW continuously, so performance doesn't fade after a few hard launches.

Record charging

The 800 V battery uses directly cooled cylindrical cells inspired by Formula 1 and comes in two sizes: 106 kWh (up to 600 kW) and 128 kWh (up to 710 kW). With the larger pack, AMG promises up to 450 km WLTP in 10 minutes and 10–80% in about 12 minutes. Range reaches 700 km WLTP.

The new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension actively stabilises roll and pitch. The rear wheels steer by up to 6°, and a sound system recreates a V8 soundtrack. The SUV is built in Sindelfingen.

The premiere took place at "The 140 Festival", streamed live on the official Mercedes-Benz channel:

What it means for drivers

The GT 53 can be ordered from October 20, from €113,050 in Germany. The GT 63 and GT 55 follow in spring 2027, and the car reaches the US in summer 2027. The good news is the technology: 700 kW charging shows how quickly road-trip stops are shrinking. Mercedes is already doing well with EVs, as we wrote about its record third quarter and the new VLE.
