FSD transfers are back in Europe, now as "Tesla Assisted Driving Basic". Romania is on the list

A purchased FSD Capability package can again move to a new Tesla in 17 European countries, Romania included, under the name Tesla Assisted Driving Basic. The conditions: order placed on or after 18 July 2025, old car owned outright rather than leased, and tell Tesla before delivery. The transfer doesn't make the full system legal on Romanian roads.

If you paid for FSD Capability on a Tesla, you can once again move it to your new car. According to "Not an FSD Tracker", the transfer page is live again on Tesla's websites in 17 European countries, Romania among them. The package just has a new name: Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD) Basic.

The three conditions

  1. The new car was ordered on or after 18 July 2025.
  2. You own the old car outright, not leased and not a company car. Tesla requires you to stay the owner and registration holder for at least 72 hours after the new car is delivered, and both cars must be on the same Tesla account.
  3. You tell Tesla before delivery and sign the transfer agreement. Don't add the package to the new car's order.

The package lands on the new car after delivery. The old car keeps standard Autopilot only. If you want the features on both, you'll need to buy TAD Basic separately.

The countries on the "Not an FSD Tracker" list are the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Romania and Luxembourg.

Why it's "back"

Tesla opened transfers in Europe and the Middle East in July 2025, after Elon Musk said on X that it would be "fair". On July 21, 2025, the Tesla Europe & Middle East account announced that the transfer applied to all new orders.

In the US, the program ended on March 31, 2026, and Tesla's page there still says so. For Europe, "Not an FSD Tracker" noticed back in March 2026 that the March 31 deadline had disappeared from the German and Italian pages, leaving only the order-after-18-July-2025 condition. Now, after the rename of FSD to Tesla Assisted Driving, the page has reappeared under the new name, with Romania on the list. Tesla can change the terms at any time.

What it means in Romania

TAD Basic is the FSD Capability package you bought, just renamed. It includes the same features as before: Autosteer, Lane Change, Navigate on Autosteer, Summon and Smart Summon, Autopark, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control.

The transfer doesn't make the full system legal on Romanian roads. Tesla Assisted Driving without "Basic" (formerly FSD Supervised) is approved only in the Netherlands and a few countries that recognized the Dutch decision. Romania still has two hurdles, explained in detail in our guide to FSD in Europe and Romania:

In short: if you buy a new Tesla, you don't lose the money you paid for the package. But on Romanian roads the car does the same things it did before.
