After the Model 3 and the BMW iX3, it's Volkswagen's turn. On October 8, the Facebook page "ARES CLUB" posted what it calls a "national premiere": a Volkswagen ID.7 driven from Timișoara to Constanța, across the whole of Romania, on a single charge.

The route

The car set off from an ElDrive station in Timișoara. The route ran through Lugoj, Caransebeș, Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Craiova, Caracal, Bucharest, Lehliu and Fetești to Constanța. "It's not WLTP. It's the real road, real traffic, real weather and real consumption," the crew writes in the video description.

The numbers

  • 784 km without charging, arriving at night in the port of Constanța;
  • the trip computer showed 10.5 kWh/100 km and 13 hours 11 minutes of driving;
  • an average speed of 60 km/h;
  • 29 km of range left at the end, about 3% battery.

The charge at the end

In Constanța the ID.7 went on a CCS fast charger. It took 55.6 kWh, from 3% to 62%, at an average of 165 kW, in roughly 20 minutes.

What it means

As with the Model 3 and iX3 tests, low speed is the key. A 60 km/h average isn't a holiday pace, but 10.5 kWh/100 km in a large sedan, on national roads and motorway, shows how efficient the ID.7 can be. The video doesn't say which battery version was used.
